TREE PLANTING CEREMONY

The Rite of Tree Planting is perfect for nature-loving brides and grooms or for those who have opted for a green-themed wedding that takes place in a farmhouse, backyard, among vines or otherwise in a rustic, rural setting.

It consists of planting a tree to take care of in the years following the wedding day to symbolize the dedication and love that the bride and groom have to exchange with each other over the years to keep their marriage and love alive; the tree will grow just like the love in the couple and will strengthen over the years.

After the civil ceremony, the celebrant invites the couple to plant the sapling either in the ground (when the ceremony takes place in the couple’s backyard) or in a pot that the couple will fill with some potting soil: each person will take it from their own container. Tradition would have it partly coming from the bride’s house and partly from the groom’s.

It is finished by watering together the soil that has now become communal.
